Press Release: Sewer Overflow

Reading, Michigan — The City of Reading reported a sewer overflow from its collection system, triggered by a break in the force main of the sewer system. “The City of Reading’s drinking water system was unaffected”.
On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at approximately 7a.m., a sanitary sewer overflow started near 206 N. Union Street draining into the northwest storm sewer collection system. As of 11:30am, the break was repaired, and the combined overflow was estimated at 1,000 gallons.
Please note that Sewage is the wastewater released by residences, institutions and businesses in a community. It is 99.94 percent water, with only about 0.06 percent of the wastewater dissolved and suspended pollutants.
