Fall Hydrant Flushing Notice
On Monday 10/05/2026 the Reading Department of Public Works will
begin the Fall Hydrant flushing program in the City of Reading
between the hours of 7 AM and 3:00 PM. It may take up to 2 weeks to
complete, and flushing will start at the south end of the City. During
the flushing program residents can expect reduced water pressure,
discoloration, and momentary interruption of water service. The DPW
advises residents to please refrain from doing laundry during these
hours of flushing as the discoloration may stain clothing. If your water
is discolored, run the cold water tap for 10 – 15 minutes and it should
clear up. The water is safe for consumption.
