REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP)
Fire Hydrant Replacement Project
- Introduction
The City of Reading is soliciting proposals from qualified contractors to furnish all labor,
equipment, materials for restoration and supervision necessary to replace existing fire hydrants
at designated locations within the City.
The City has purchased the Fire Hydrants, megalugs, and thrust blocks. - Project Overview
The project includes, but is not limited to:
- Replacement of approximately 4 existing fire hydrants
- Removal and disposal of existing hydrants
- Connection to existing water mains
- Replacement of valves, fittings, and hydrant leads as needed
- Site restoration (pavement, landscaping, etc.)
- Pressure testing and inspection
- Project Locations
Hydrants will be replaced at the following general locations:
- 7510 W Reading Rd
- 120 Union St
- 213 N Ann St
- 235 Warner St
- Scope of Work
The contractor shall:
- Remove and properly dispose of existing hydrants
- Excavate as necessary to expose existing connections
- Replace or reconnect hydrant leads, auxiliary valves, and valve boxes as needed
- Ensure proper bury depth and frost protection
- Disinfect and test all installations
- Coordinate with City staff for inspections
- Restore all disturbed areas to pre-construction condition
- Maintain water service and minimize disruptions
- Comply with all applicable safety and traffic control regulations
- Contractor Qualifications
Proposers must:
- Be licensed and insured in the State of Michigan
- Demonstrate experience with municipal hydrant replacement projects
- Provide at least three (3) references
- Have knowledge of local and state regulations
- Proposal Requirements
Proposals must include:
- Company profile and qualifications
- Completed Unit Price Bid Form (see Section 7)
- Project timeline and completion schedule
- List of subcontractors (if applicable)
- Proof of insurance
- References
- Unit Price Bid Form
Contractors shall provide a unit price per hydrant replacement, which shall include all labor,
materials, equipment, disposal, restoration, and incidental costs.
