2025 Yard Waste Collection
YARD WASTE POLICY
According to the following policies: Yard waste will be collected between April and October as per the schedule of collections, weather permitting. Once the schedule is determined, on an annual basis, it will be posted at City Hall, and on the City of Reading website www.reading.mi.us
- All materials for collection shall be placed at the edge of the street no later than 7:00 AM on the day scheduled for collection and no sooner than the Friday before the scheduled collection.
- Any property owner or resident placing yard waste at the curb any earlier than the Friday before the scheduled pickup date or that does not meet the requirements as stated in this policy, may be cited for blight by the code enforcement department.
For Example: If the scheduled pick-up day is Monday, April 21, 2025, then nothing can be placed at the curb any earlier than Friday, April 18, 2025, or any later than 7:00 am on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Schedule of collection is as follows weather permitting for 2024

Monday, April 21, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than April 18, 2025
➢
Monday, May 19, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than May 16, 2025
➢
Monday, June 16, 2025-Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than June 13, 2025
➢
Monday, July 21, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than July 18, 2025
➢
Monday, August 18, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than August 15, 2025
➢
Monday, September 15, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than September 12, 2025
➢
Monday, October 20, 2025- Nothing should be at the curb any earlier than October 17, 2025
4.
Yard waste eligible for collection shall include:
➢
Branches – (3ft-8ft Bundled) Any Branches under three feet need to be bagged.
➢
Tree Limbs – (3ft-8ft Bundled) Any Limbs under three feet need to be bagged.
➢
Bagged Grass Clippings
➢
Bagged Garden Clippings
➢
Bagged Leaves
*** Biodegradable bags must be used for Leaves, Grass and Garden Clippings as well as branches and limbs under 3ft.
5.
No animal waste will be collected.
6.
All Leaves, Grass & Garden Clippings and branches & limbs under 3ft in length need to be placed in biodegradable bags. All Branches/Tree Limbs 3 feet in length but not to exceed 8 feet in length shall be placed along the road edge in such a manner to have all the limbs in one direction and stacked as to facilitate the collection process.

Keep all yard waste materials away from all trees, utility poles, telephone service pedestals, water shut-off valves, fire hydrants, etc.

No more than one pick-up load of materials shall be set out for collection at any one address for each collection.
9.
Trees cut or trimmed by contractors will not be eligible for collection and need to be taken care of by the contractor or property owner.
10.
The Public Works Department has the right to refuse pick-up of any yard waste that does not meet the guidelines as stated in this policy.
11.
Whole Christmas trees will be collected in January.
12.
Fall Leaf collection is scheduled to take place beginning Monday, October 27th and every Monday through November 24th.
Emergency storm situations will override this schedule.
