Sump Pump Notice

This is an update from the City of Reading Department of Public Works.
In the past, large volumes of storm water and groundwater entering the sewage
system from sump pumps have overwhelmed the City of Reading’s sanitary sewer
system, which may cause back-ups into basements and private property.
As we are preparing for severe rainstorms and spring thaws, we ask our residents
to check their sump pumps to ensure they are not connected to the sanitary sewer
but are draining to either a storm drain or their yard.
Your health may be impacted if a sewage backup occurs in your home. So, we thank
you for your cooperation in helping us ensure the safety and protection of Reading
residents.

If you need help determining where your sump pump is draining to or if you have
additional questions or concerns, please call City Hall at (517) 283-2604.
